Interview with Nahar (FR)

Couple of months ago, Lachryma Christi had the pleasure of reviewing the latest album of Nahar, called The Strange Inconvenience, one of the strangest but at the same time very good albums that ever reached Lachryma Christi.
You can actually read it here: http://lachrymachristizine.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/review-nahars-recent-album-strange.html
Sound is so intriguing and so fascinating at the same time, that an interview had to be done. Keep scrolling down so you read the words of S.V.H. from Nahar.

What is the meaning of Nahar?

Each period brings his new definition, actually I can translate it as Negative Abreaction caused by Hermetic and Abstruse Ruminations. But if you have another proposition I'm ok.

How did the band form?

Like thousand other bands, it's the meeting of different personalities and sensibilities.
For the last album, I worked with a talented rhythm section formed by two musicians involved in the scene since long time. Their talent makes that this record sounds good. It's a real change for me who was customer of a do it yourself practice.
I take advantage of this interview to specify that Nahar is not the side project of Sorghal. He was just a part of the pulse, just a devoted musician, but on no account the inspirator of the project. Sorry my friend, but your radiance seems to blind the idiots!

Your songs seem to be so suffered, what are your lyrics about?

Each lyrics is a kind of spittoon, written in few hours in a pure nihilistic French form, but finally translated in English. Because the message is definitely boundless and full of promises for the generations to come, it would have been indecent to deprive them of it.
Thanks for taking news, but actually I’m not depressed.

What are your influences musically? Your songs have a lot of different rhythms and styles, all very “painful” and really strong.

I'm a big music consumer and it's not a problem for me to pass from Atrax Morgue to Pink Floyd the next minute.
Currently I'm into Scott Walker, Hexvessel and Electric Wizard, but I don’t think these musicians influence a lot my music.
Nahar is a mix of old fashioned doom rock drugged with black metal. The result is quite psychoactive and I stay as far as possible away from gimmicks, privileging the intention than the form.

What have been your favorite musicians? Is there any band/artist you would like to share a stage with?

First, it will be difficult to us to play gigs. It’s a little difficult to translate our sound on stage.
We played two gigs in our short live performer career, and each time it's very frustrating to go on stage after a ten minutes sound check and thousand kilometers in the legs. It’s not only rock ’n’ roll. We need a dedicated sound engineer and additional musicians to take care of the details which haunt our songs. And actually I lost my faith... maybe later. But split the bill with Aluk Todolo, or another outsider, could be pretty good.

How has been the reaction of the public to The Strange Inconvenience?

Good, in general.

Why The Strange Inconvenience? What is that inconvenience you refer to?

Have you ever taken a drop of acid? The strange inconvenience is the flash back effect caused by, it's written in your brain, and I can tell you that is a strange inconvenience.

What are you planning to do next, after promoting your album? What can your fans expect for a near future?

Currently I'm working on new material with a different line up from the last album and I'm really excited by this collaboration. We don’t have deadline, but our goal is to work fast and instinctively. Maybe there will be a new album next year.

Anything you would like to add or advertise here?

Thanks for your attention. Smoke weed and worship Satan.

Review: Winterblood's debut album "Herbstsehnsucht"

Few days ago arrived at Lachryma Christi's inbox this album called Herbstsehnsucht (which stands for "Yearning for Autumn" in English), from this German Black Metal called Winterblood.
The band was formed in 2007. So far they released a demo and a split with Endlos.
The album Herbstsehnsucht was released in May in self production, sounds a bit raw.
Well, this album is quite good, musically. Really dragged, sober, angry, furious, very emotional, melancholic too at parts, very inspiring.
The only not so good point is the production really. It's not terrible, but just not very good. But it's perfectly listenable anyway. And given the nature of the music, it is kinda suitable. Not trying to be nice or polite here, but there are so many bands always fighting for the "true" and perfect "rawness", and they never achieve it. Herbstsehnsucht sounds ok even with a less good production in fact.
If you listen to it a few times, it really gets into your mind and soul, it's quite an introspective work, really good.
The band describe themselves as "Avant-garde Black Metal combined with Opera Vocals". Lachryma Christi would say it is more Black Metal than anything else, quite heavy, quite suffered.
So the advice here is: give a chance to these guys, they deserve much more than a chance actually.

Review: Throne of Malediction's latest album "Out of Darkness, Comes Light"

This review should have been done a long while ago. But it's not easy sometimes to manage all the releases that come into the inbox all the time. This is not a complain though!
For those who don't know, Throne of Malediction, they are a band from USA, and just released an album called Out of Darkness, Comes the Light.
So yeah, what to expect from this album? It has loads of different influences.
First track is maybe the heaviest one, very Black Metalish. There are other tracks on the same line, but this is probably the heaviest one in the whole album.
The album has many female voices, as well as very melancholic parts and melodies.
Don't expect something very aggressive, it is actually very mild and relaxed, with lots of guitar riffs full of melodies.
There is not much to say really, you need to listen to it for yourself. It is so varied, that is not really easy to describe it in words, but it is quite pleasant and nice to hear. Kinda different from what Black Metal or Black Metal influenced bands usually bring.
There are line up changes to be announced soon.
You can also find an interview by Lachryma Christi with the band here:

http://lachrymachristizine.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/interview-with-throne-of-malediction.html

Review: From The Vastland's just released album "Kamarikan"

From the Vastland started as a one man project from this guy called Sina, from Iran. Kamarikan is the second album, and it just came out in Germany, Norway and Austria, on the 7th of June through Indie Recordings.
Sina has been quite brave and his music is just fantastic. From the Vastland is just one of the best bands that has ever passed by Lachryma Christi.
This is a very Norwegian Black Metal oriented album, everyone should listen to it, and go on facebook and drop a "like" on their page, Sina really deserves all the credit, attention and all the best regards.
In one word: perfection.
Really kick ass album, really old school choices in every way, amazing voice, amazing riffs and bass lines, everything is so strong and potent, please check this out!
Sina does all the instrumental work as well as voices, and From the Vastland went to Inferno Metal Fest in Norway this year, having members of Den Saakaldte, Morbid Angel and 1349 as support musicians, which was a blast. The album was actually originally planned to be sold at the festival only, but the reception was so good, that it ended up being sold worldwide.
Honestly, get the album, and enjoy one of the masterpieces of Black Metal for 2013. Properly Black Metal stuff, really majestic, fast, angry, coherent, so good, there are also acoustic elements available, everything sounds so precious from first to last track, no words to describe!

Review: Cadaveria's Horror Metal re-released

Gothic/Black Metal band from Italy Cadaveria released in 2012 the album Horror Metal. It was such a success that Cadaveria are releasing it again through Bakerteam Records. It just came out on the 27th of May.
For those who don't know, Cadaveria play a very special kind of Metal. They are usually "labeled" as Gothic Black Metal. Well, they don't have much of Gothic, apart from the female clean vocals. The sound itself is always much more heavy than Gothic.
This re-issue is a special edition which features two bonus tracks: Whispers Of Sin (Ancestral Remix) and Hypnotic Psychosis (Chaotic Remix).
It is really heavy but melodic, and at times it becomes even a bit progressive. Never forget though that Cadaveria is herself a female singer, which makes this band already special and different, as there are not many Black Metal bands having female singers and with such a power as Cadaveria. So if this is your thing, you will certainly like it. And containing two extra songs, even better.
Italy has been pleasantly surprising in what comes to Black Metal and Cadaveria are a band that even being sort of different, is a part of this amazing scene. Give them a go!
