Finnish Blackened Death Metal band Anima Hereticae released a music video for the track Cimmerian Darkness from their upcoming album, and you can watch it here:

“Even though pretty much anything we do has the sense of darkness and despair, this song has also a hint of hope in it. Creating new music is quite therapeutic and healing experience for us. And so was the writing of this song - a meditative and self-reflecting process. Some times as wondering this world we live in it feels like we are living in Cimmerian darkness on the edge of the world.” Ville Rutanen and Taneli Jämsä background the song.

The music video is directed by the Anima Hereticae drummer Teppo Ristola, and as an actor there is Jussi Matilainen from Where’s My Bible.

You can see Anima Hereticae live, as the band is touring in Finland and Baltics this spring:

News: Blodtår release second single from upcoming album

Black Metal band Blodtår released the track En krona av is ('A Crown of Ice'), which is the second track from the upcoming album Det förtegna förflutna ('The secretive and quiet past’).

Det förtegna förflutna is scheduled to be released on the 21st of April.

You can now listen to the song En krona av is here:

Carl commented:

"Despite being the opener, “En krona av is” was the last track I wrote for “Det förtegna förflutna”. I wanted to instil some dynamics. I didn’t want to make a record consisting only of fast black metal. In order to give the folk-feel room to “dance” a little, I created space for more dynamic tracks with somewhat less chaos and more melody – if not in the lead instruments, then a kind of melody in the rhythm segments. This was a balance I wanted to bring to the record - and it's a balance I often choose to perform when it comes to dark music."

Tracklist:

1 - En krona av is (’A crown of ice’)
2 - Ur mörker (’Of darkness’)
3 - Skymning (‘Dusk’)
4 - Den fördärvande sorgbundenheten (‘The devastating grief’)
5 - De dansar på berget… (‘They dance on the mountain…’)
6 - I avgrundens djup (‘In the depths of the abyss’)
7 - Gånglåt (‘Walking tune’)
8 - Uttala dess namn (‘Speak its name’)
9 - En brynja av barr (‘A hauberk of pine needles’)

You can pre-order the album here:

Review: Unfelled's first full-length "Pall of Endless Perdition"

Black Metal band Unfelled released their first album Pall of Endless Perdition on the 10th of March, through Season of Mist. So here is a short review for you.

It is such an intense album! It has a very good and healthy combination of rawness and melody, translating into a more traditional Black Metal album than not. From beginning to end, there is a lot of equilibrium in every composition, making it a very rich release.

Pall of Endless Perdition is mesmerising, very captivating, fascinating and really absorbing.

It is very heavy, atmospheric, dragging you into this very particular and special mood and journey. At the same time that it makes you feel surprised at every turn, it brings you a very familiar feeling, that you don't want to get rid of.

My favourite track is the fifth one, Transcendent Legacy. For it's abrupt start, for it's melody, for the catchiness of the riffs even, for the angry and shouted voice. There is a feeling almost like despair when listening to it, which is delicious. Those feelings that are difficult to translate into words, you know?

So, if you like a good dose of more hostil, fast and raw Black Metal, mixed with melody and sadness and even devastating rhythms and furious and sad vocals, you'll love Pall of Endless Perdition. I know I do. All is perfect. Instrumentally, the vocals, the alignment of the songs, everything is perfect.

Review: Omenloth's debut album "Omenloth"

Last year in September, Greek Black Metal band Omenloth released their debut and self- titled album, through Theogonia Records. And it is so bloody good!

So if you haven't heard Omenloth yet, what can you expect? They play a very melodic and atmospheric Black Metal. There is a ton of feeling in every song. Everything is so emotional, even the more aggressive bits.

If you are into keyboards in Black Metal, you'll love the intricate melodies and variety of sounds you'll find in Omenloth, and which go really well with their music.

My favourite track might actually be the first one The Eye and the Flower. It is so full of pain, anguish, even fury. There is a lot of sadness. The guitar solo is something else. Even in the most melodic Black Metal bands it is not easy to fit emotional and beautifully played guitar solos. Only some bands manage to do so. And Omenloth are one of those bands who can. Perfectly. And in other songs too, of course.

So Omenloth is a 8 track album, perfectly performed and put together, filled with sentiment and emotion, taking you into a very melancholic and introspective journey. The track 7 is actually a cover of Wolf and Fear, originally played by Ulver. It is a more melodic and atmospheric version than the original, as per Omenloth's music style, but very beautiful indeed.

I didn't mention yet, but there are clean voices too. Not only the tradition Black Metal way of singing, but clean voice too. Which adds a different and almost desolate (good desolate, if we can put it that way) touch to the whole album.

So if you like melodic, sad, powerful, aggressive, angry, emotional, full, atmospheric Black Metal music, Omenloth is for you.

Review: Serement's debut EP "Deviation from God"

Greek Blackened Death Metal band Serement released their first EP Deviation from God in November last year, through Theogonia Records.

Deviation from God is a 2 track release, in cassete format. A very pretty green one, for that matter.

It is indeed very good, very fast and angry most of the time. It is definitely a lot more in the realm of Death Metal, but the Black Metal influences are clearly there, especially in the drums and lyrics.

The 2 tracks are very heavy and powerful, with a very gutural and deep voice. Although the band formed recently only, in 2022, even before you check their background you can tell how experienced they are in making music. I wouldn't say that Deviation from God is catchy, but there are many melodic rhythms and riffs which will remain in your ear. I heard it 4 times in a row myself, because only 2 songs with this quality are simply not enough for me. I hope they release a full-length at some point very soon. And mind you, Death Metal isn't very much my cup of tea, so imagine if it was.

My favourite track might be the first one, Malevolent Mist Over the Mount of the Deceased. It is shorter and a tad more melodic, and the melody might be why I liked it more. However, it is all about the personal taste of each of us.

The second track No Reflection for His Shadow starts with a little bit of the sound of a scene of the film Bram Stoker's Dracula. Which adds a special touch to it and to the theme of the actual song. If you're familiar with the film, you may be able to identify the particular scene immediately. This song is a lot more aggressive and brutal.

I'm sure many of you will enjoy Deviation from God as much as I do.
