News: Gyrdleah streams "Spellbinder" at Decibel Magazine ahead of release date

Black Metal one man band Gyrdleah is releasing the new album Spellbinder tomorrow, the 21st of April, through Black Lion Records.

Band mastermind Flagrum comments “Spellbinder for me is both a journey and turning point for Gyrdleah. It represents a great and unholy reckoning that began with my own struggles and reawakening. With this long-awaited return and debut album, I intended it to act as dark spell in which the listener is directly involved in this invocation of dark art and nature. I surrendered to the inner self and tried to forget what I’d known. To me, your darkest fears are those that cannot be seen. Alone I was cursed to travel without return. But finally, as if by magic, the abyss extended a hand and Spellbinder is the sacrilegious result. So, I’m sure with this release and with the devil at your back, spellbound you shall also be.”

Tracklist:
1. Stab The Lamb

3. Gathered For The Murder
4. Approaching Gyrdleah
5. Speak Of The Devil
6. Spellbinder

News: Blodtår release another track from their upcoming album

Black Metal band from Sweden Blodtår are releasing their first full-length Det förtegna förflutna on the 21st of April.

They just released their third single I avgrundens djup, and you can listen to it here:

Blodtår commented:
“I avgrundens djup” truly embodies the signature Blodtår sound; I consider it one of the standout tracks from “Det förtegna förflutna”. Moreover, writing a homage to the Hårga Legend - which is one of Sweden's darkest folk tales - was a tremendous honour.

The full name of the track is ‘They dance upon the mountain... in the depths of the abyss’ and it tells the tragic story of the Hårga Dance. My interpretation of the legend is based on the most captivating sources, which paint a picture of a fateful night in Hårga, Hälsingland. At a local barn dance, a mysterious fiddler appears and introduces an unheard-of music style. The youth in attendance can't resist the music's call, and they join in the dance, unable to stop themselves. The fiddler - with his burning eyes, cloven hooves, and magical music - leads them out of the barn and up the Hårga Mountain, where they eventually dance to their deaths.

Today, at the foot of the mountain, on nights of the full moon, one can still hear the fiddler's music. To this day, Hälsingehambon, an annual dance competition, draws inspiration from the Hårga Legend."

Tracklist:
1 - En krona av is (’A crown of ice’)
2 - Ur mörker (’Of darkness’)
3 - Skymning (‘Dusk’)
4 - Den fördärvande sorgbundenheten (‘The devastating grief’)
5 - De dansar på berget… (‘They dance on the mountain…’)
6 - I avgrundens djup (‘In the depths of the abyss’)
7 - Gånglåt (‘Walking tune’)
8 - Uttala dess namn (‘Speak its name’)
9 - En brynja av barr (‘A hauberk of pine needles’)

News: Corax B.M signed with The Circle Music

Greek Pagan Black Metal band Corax B.M just signed with The Circle Music, for the release of their debut album Pagana.

Pagana is scheduled to be released in October of 2023, and it will be available in various physical and digital formats.

The band commented: “We are thrilled and honoured about our new contract with The Circle Music for our full-length album "Pagana". Communication is the most important issue for us and from the first minute of our discussions with the label, we felt that our new album will be in good hands.”

The Circle Music added: “When we heard the first two songs ("Mythos" and "Zophos") from their upcoming album, we immediately knew we had to work together. Their sound could best be characterised as a combination of black metal that owes a lot to the early Rotting Christ and Necromantia sound along with thrash metal influences that parade in many parts of their music. The Greek verse gives its own distinct moment.”

News: Drakon stream upcoming EP "High Tales" before release

Black Metal band Drakon are releasing an EP called High Tales on the 7th of April, through Sleaszy Rider.

You can now stream it exclusively on Metal Vault:

Band commentary about the album: “Our new mini-work is lyrically a concept, and even covers for two different Scandinavian bands, seemingly thematically distant from each other, are successfully woven into this common eschatological outline of the entire material. Through reflections on the place of our people in the universe, our fate and role, skaldically-like we tell in new songs, linking them with a common meaning, a parable-warning about the impending end of the world, Ragnarok, the destruction of all life, while saying that this is the purpose of all our human race and irreversible inevitability. Only we must fight and die proudly, with honor, like gods and real warriors. Or maybe survive at the cost of a lot, in order to be cleansed of the dirt of the outgoing circle of time and become stronger, wiser and brighter.”.

Tracklist:

1. Providence of Russian Blood
2. Timevortex
3. God of War
4. Life Demise (Unanimated cover)
5. Fenris (Enslaved cover)

Recording line-up:

Veleyar - guitar
Demetr - vocals
Vladimir Kalmazan - bass
Semen Luzin “Unholy Father” Luzin - drums

Review: Hyl's upcoming debut EP "Where Emptiness is All"

International Atmospheric Black Metal band Hyl are releasing their debut EP Where Emptiness is All through Odium Records. It is scheduled to come out in May.

So today, Lachryma Christi brings you a short review for the same.

You can tell from the beginning that these musicians have been making this kind of music for quite some time. Everything is very well written and performed.

As atmospheric as Hyl are, there are a lot of ambience sounds and bits. Starting with the intro but not only the intro, which bring you a very intense and interesting atmosphere. It is very obscure and introspective.

However there is a lot more to it than that. All the songs are very emotional and deep, getting you into a melancholic but at the same time angry mood. It feels good. It can be addictive.

I can't point out a favourite song, because the EP is all so so good.

There is an impressive consistency in the compositions. Even with the abstract and other less abstract sounds in the middle, these songs are as a whole.
There are dark and frozen melodies and riffs accompanied by extremely fast drums, taking you into a complete different journey. It is so good, so frosty and powerful. The vocals are dragged and harsh, and perfect for the music.

So if you are into that kind of atmospheric, melodic, but also intense and furious Black Metal, this might be right up your alley.
