News: Darkthrone release "Black Dawn Affiliation ", the new single (the only single!) before the release of new album

Black Metal band Darkthrone from Norway are releasing a new album on the 26th of April through Peaceville Records. The album is titled It Beckons Us All.

You can now watch the lyric video for the single Black Dawn Affiliation from the same, here:

Fenriz comments of the song’s creation "Nocturno Culto sculpted BLACK DAWN AFFILIATION and as much as I writhe in woe trying to describe riffs I did not make, we are certainly rocking hard and dark around a dungeon of slow Kreator 1986-era riffs (think Awakening Of The Gods or Take Their Lives from the FLAG OF HATE 12").

The song is linearly constructed, which is bold for a single but we often write this way. One could say it is a two-pronged beast which after the intermission (filled with a choir of the damned that we sung ourselves, believe it or not: "Aaaaaa.") continues with my favourite riff in the song since I first heard it appear early in the second part and it is there that I was given the reins to let the halls and chambers of stardust levitate with unearthly synth and a voice that still today, when writing this, strikes me as being influenced by the first rock album I heard back in 1973 - Morrison Hotel. Lyrics darker and more disturbed than ever solidify these halls now."

Nocturno Culto adds “It is not easy to describe the music you make, but for sure I will try…it´s heavy! Everything worked out as I hoped for this track. Some things are just forged in the studio, like as Fenriz´s excellent vocals at the end of the song; and the choir I wanted. Instead of just taking shortcuts, Fenriz and I recorded three vocal tracks each, and it was brilliantly mixed by Silje at Chaka Khan. There are many things one can say about riffs, but I make songs from a combination of a very methodical approach and happy accidents! And somewhere in the back of my head, it´s most likely there is something affecting a lot of my decisions on little details that shapes the riffing.”

News: Crest of Darkness announce upcoming album "My Ghost"

Norwegian Black Metal band Crest of Darkness are releasing a new album next Autumn. It is going to be called My Ghost and is coming out through My Kingdom Music.

There is also a single of the album coming out in June, released in an exclusive 7" format.

The founder of Crest of Darkness Ingar Amlien comments:
"After what felt to us like an eternity of waiting, the time has finally come for us to be able to present you with new music. Since 1996 I have nurtured CREST OF DARKNESS in my heart, and in all that time I have probably never released a more personal album than "My Ghost", which will appear in the Autumn of 2024. Before that, however, you can get a taste of what to expect from "My Ghost", in the form of a single which will be released in June, even before details of the album itself are announced. I can, however, reveal that "My Ghost" is a concept album, one in which you are invited to join me on what I would call an "initiation journey" into the CREST OF DARKNESS Universe. An invitation into my own dark universe where there is only one ruler... one God... ME!!".

1349 States: ""Little did we know, more than four years ago, that by the time we would again go on tour in Europe, the continent was to be hit by a pandemic and a war. We have entered a time where grim realities have already become manifest, and a still deeper darkness hangs over us and has started its descent. To lend from our own songtitles, Pandemonium War Bells chime in the distance, threatening to become louder. It has become imminent to understand and take in the gravity and let the darkness sink in, and 1349 might just be the perfect soundtrack. Especially now, as we are about to release a particularly sinister and eerie album. We look forward to travel out to the Continent again and feel how the new songs work live in all their demonic splendour, as well as performing songs from our history and share their energies with both old fans and new. We are also pleased to be sharing the stage with fellow Norsemen Kampfar and our Danish brothers in Afsky who will join us on our journey southwards."

Review: Paracrona's upcoming (re)release "Sun God"

Norwegian Black Metal band Paracrona are re-releasing their album Sun God on the 12th of April, through Wormholedeath, with whom they recently signed a deal.

The idea was to give the album a new life and to expand it's music to a wider audience.

Well played, Paracrona, well played. Why? Because Sun God is so bloody good.

I haven't heard of Paracrona until February, when I shared the news of them joining forces with Wormholedeath, together with the video for the song Carry the Cross. I also haven't listened to the song again since. But today, when the song came up in the album I immediately recognised it, and additionally, it also gave me the same goosebumps as the first time I've heard it. If this isn't the definition of good music, then I don't know what is.

So, for those who, like me, haven't heard Sun God before, what can you expect?

On the email they come "catalogued" as Black Death Metal music. I must say I disagree a bit on the Death Metal part. Ok, it is melodic, it has amazing solos that usually are more particular of Death Metal music, but I still see it more within the melodic Black Metal realm. It has that specific touch where you can tell it's Norwegian Black Metal, especially on the guitars, even if more melodic a bit.

When I say melodic, I don't mean ballads (well, Mendacious is sort of the ballad of the album), or only catchy music, or keyboards. You'll be surprised by the aggressiveness they get to too. The track Sun God is a good example of it. Listening to it made me want to see them live right away.

These guys are very interesting musicians, I must say. It is all so technical, also reaching atonal areas that are more and more common nowadays, but still almost uncharted territory.
There are clean voices too here and there, sometimes unexpected but remarkable. In fact, the intro of the first song New Impurity has some very eerie clean voices. It is overall strange but so good at the same time.

Moving on, Sun God has 9 tracks. All of them very powerful and energetic. There are no dull moments during Sun God. Usually I mention my favourite track when I do a review, but here it is difficult to choose only one. I'll go with Carry the Cross.

The last song Reasons has some oriental vibes, I wasn't expecting that. Good surprise. The clean voices on there are so emotional. Good surprise again. Took me back to some of late 1990s or early 2000s music, for a second.

So, if this is your kind of music, the date is 12th of April, don't forget!
