Review: Mairu's "Sol Cultus"

Greetings!
After a few very busy days without being able to post, here is another review for you. And this one should have been done a long time ago.

Mairu are a Post-Metal band from Liverpool, UK.
They released their first full length last month. It is called Sol Cultus. Bearing in mind the band has been around for around 5 years, this is big. Specially since they started working on this album even before the pandemic.

Lachryma Christi works mostly with Black Metal music, and very rarely with some Post-Metal music. This is one of those rare times.

So what can you expect from Sol Cultus
Sol Cultus is so heavy! That was one of the first things that caught my attention. It is not shoegaze as some of you might be thinking, it is actually very very doomy. Good Doom. As a Doom lover (yes, after Black Metal, I really like Doom Metal, although I don't listen to it as often), I can tell this is so good.

The songs are mostly instrumental, so when the voice comes up, it really takes you by suprise. Not only because you're not expecting it, but because the voice is so full of despair and pain, all the distortion goes so well with it. However, it is energising, it is fiery.

There is a good dose of emotion that comes with this album, because it is all so intense, I am really impressed.

Sol Cultus is a gem, a true ode to the Sun. There are 8 tracks of pure introspective, strong, powerful Post-Metal music for you to enjoy. I know I did.
