Melodic Black Metal band from Taiwan Efflore, released on the 2nd of June a new album called 島國怪談 Haunted Island.
This is a very special album indeed. Not only the music is phenomenal per se, as the themes are quite traditional from where the band is from. Traditional and spooky.
So what can you expect from Haunted Island?
It has four tracks, where you can tell they are all kind of different from each other. Not as a weird mix, but as in giving you the notion of how talented and versatile these musicians can be within the style they play.
The first track, 古井冤魂 Wraith in the Old Well, might actually be my favourite. It is so aggressive, so fast and full of anger, but at the same time with the very deep, melodic and very wisely orchestrated parts they can blend in so well. It is a very strong and powerful song. All of this gets you right in the mood, for all the music you still are about to listen to.
The whole album has a very intense vibe, it is very heavy and fast paced, with impressive vocals, and with wacky and ghostly sounds here and there, which bring the atmosphere to exactly what it is about: horror!
So if you enjoy melodic, fast, furious and even very interesting symphonic Black Metal music, focusing on subjects such as local tales, urban legends, horror stories and historical events from Taiwan, Haunted Island is for you.
I can tell it is really very good.
