Review: Peisithanatos' EP "Cityscape Depression"

DSBM band Peisithanatos is a studio project from Italy and Mexico.

They released this year a new EP called Cityscape Depression.

The EP has seven tracks. It is a bit over half an hour long and it is worth every minute. 

If you enjoy DSBM (I do, very much. It's probably my favourite style of Black Metal music), you'll know this type of music is popular for their repetitive riffs and melancholic melodies. 

In Cityscape Depression you'll find that but not only that. In fact, Peisithanatos are a lot more than that. This EP brings us a very agonizing and desperate atmosphere. Not only the music but also the vocals. It is just so suffered. It is beautiful indeed. If it is your thing, you'll know automatically what I'm talking about.

There are elements that bring sadness, pain, hopelessness, anguish, disheartment. From the guitars to the rhythms. The compositions, the sad passages, the breaks filled with acoustic riffs.

There were bits, I dare to say, which reminded me the feeling I get from Shining. Although Shining are more experimental, and perhaps a bit less heavy, in my opinion. 

So if you like that Black Metal that is really intense, heavy, melancholic, dragged, with keyboards which fill the room with sorrow, with rhythms which are sometimes slow and profound but other times fast and aggressive leaving you in tears either way, that's for you.

I loved it.

Review: Paindemonium's song "All Hail the Despot"

Have you heard about Paindemonium?

We are talking of a band who are originally from Egypt, but who later on based themselves in the Netherlands. They play a very interesting somewhat technical Black/Death Metal.

Paindemonium have released one EP in 2010 and two singles in 2024. 

Today I am reviewing and sharing with you one of those singles, called All Hail the Despot.

So, Paindemonium brings us a very aggressive and technical song here. Whether you like Black or Death Metal more, you'll be pleased with this song, because it answers for both really. I found All Hail the Despot full of anger, fury, but also musicality and technicality. You can tell the members were really together on the making and on the recording of this song. It is not as Black Metal as the EP Demonipathy, but it is like a evolved version of the band's sound. Like they grew and matured their technique and now deliver a very professional and perfected work.
