Review: Decayed's EP "Apocryphal Spells" released in January in CD format

This is another example of "better late than ever". I've had this release on my inbox since January, but was away at that time. So here we are.

As you know, or some of you might know, the more familiar you are with something, the more difficult it is to find vocabulary to describe it. That's one of those cases here.

However, in case you didn't know, Decayed had released the EP Apocryphal Spells in 2012, being a part of it on CD and the other on vinyl.
Last January, this EP was released all on CD, all remastered, via Haloran Records.

Apocryphal Spells is a very rare EP, and one of their most precious releases. Not only for how rare it is (it still is rare now, since only 200 copies of this new version were made), but as for the music in it, and also the lineup.

If you haven't heard it yet, I can tell you it has 6 tracks, being the first one a very disturbing intro, Apocryphal Intro, followed by First Spell, which is a gem. That fantastic Black Thrashy kind of Metal. As it is so characteristic of Decayed, and that they make so well.

Second spell is a bit more atmospheric, with wolves howling and a slow almost Doom intro, but don't be fooled, because afterwards everything that follows is proper smashing and demolishing Black Metal. At this point, you are already completely absorbed and there's no way back.

And the solos! So bloody good. If you read my reviews you know I'm picky with that. Decayed's solos are fantastic.

Track 6 Divine Ambrosia, is a closing track, very very spooky, slow, atmospheric and obscure song. And when you least expect, comes a female very crystalline and eerie voice that leaves all your hair standing. Perfectly fitting to close this awesome release.

Apocryphal Spells is a masterpiece, it is superb, it is huge, it is magnificent, it is tremendous, it is pure Black Metal.
