Review: Twilight Fauna's LP "Hymns of a Forgotten Homeland"

For those who don't know, Twilight Fauna is a one man band from USA. This man is Ravenwood and he has been around making music for Twilight  Fauna since 2011 and already released a few works before.
Earlier this year Twilight Fauna released a LP in vinyl format called Hymns of a Forgotten Homeland, in a limited edition of 250 copies, through Fragile Branch Records.
The release has a very good artwork cover as you can see below and all the atmosphere is very intense and matches the cover perfectly.
You have to be in the mood for this kind of thing, is not easy to take in, but is possible once you get into it. Hymns of a Forgotten Homeland has three tracks per side and is very atmospheric and also very hypnotizing. The drums are rare, making it already different. The lyrics are great, very nature inspired but the music sounds more (much more!) aggressive than what the lyrics are about. It is strange, very strange. It has many acoustic parts with no voice, or with whispers, and when you think it will be only that, there comes the enraged bit, which gets a bit noisy at parts. The guitars sometimes remind a lot of the distortion bits on Nattens Madrigal by Ulver. Only the last song of side B Of River Willows is a bit more melodic.
Hymns of a Forgotten Homeland is one of those things that you have to experience, it is very difficult to put into words, so strange and genius it is.

Review: Veldes' EP "Skyward"

Veldes is a one man band from Slovenia that plays a Atmospheric Black Metal sound. Recently Veldes released a four track EP, called Skyward, and contacted Lachryma Christi for a review.
Lachryma Christi couldn't be more pleased with this request since the sound is great. Really good to hear this band for the first time, even though they had released an album last year already.
Skyward is beautiful. Some of you will probably think that "beautiful" is not a suitable word when it comes to Black Metal, but honestly it suits very well here.
First track is a piano song, really beautiful, leaving goose bumps everywhere. Really melodic and deep.
All tracks are special, following the same line, with some doom parts as well. Melodic, melancholic, introspective, full of good vibes and feelings and also some sadness at parts.
Tilen Šimon is a very good musician and Lachryma Christi can only congratulate him for this amazing work, and hope every and each of you has the chance of getting Skyward, since it is one of the best releases that ever passed through Lachryma Christi. Rok Rupnik also did a great job as guest vocals.

Review: Gods of War's EP "Tales From The Dark Lands"

Blackened Death Metal band from Liverpool, UK, Gods of War, released earlier this year a EP called Tales From The Dark Lands.
This EP got to Lachryma Christi recently, sadly, because it is such an amazing work. It is not properly Black Metal but has many influences of it. It is more Death Metal, but is very melodic, with loads of catchy riffs and melodies.
The EP has 4 tracks, all of them really catchy, and once you finish listening to the whole thing you think: oh crap, is it over already?
Something to listen to over and over again.
The band is active since 2008 and their sound is very cohesive, very together, very tuned, very complete and full.
Tales From The Dark Lands is full of very good and vibrant emotions, all good stuff in there. Reminds a bit of some big underground metal bands from the 90's.
The EP is for free download on the band's bandcamp, but they accept donations. In fact, any donations are more than deserved, since the band is really good, and this EP is just awesome.

Review: Paimonia's debut album "Disease Named Humanity"

For those who don't know, Paimonia are a Black Metal band from Serbia. Recently Lachryma Christi was contacted by Bojan, the founder and mastermind behind the band, to present their work for a possible review. Even though Lachryma Christi is taking a break, it would be impossible to not write a review for Disease Named Humanity, such a masterpiece.
The album has 7 tracks, all of them very special. Why? Because they actually make you feel goosebumps at every chord, every riff, every beat, every word, every growl.
It is very hard to name one best song from the album, because they are all so great. So powerful and full.
There are some influences that you can easily notice, that can change from Mayhem to Shinning. And at times you can even listen to acoustic melodies.
We can say that the album is in general very melodic, very fast, very tuned, very pleasant, very full of good vibes and details. Voice is just perfect for all this combination, and this is for sure one of the best albums for 2014.
Give them a listen, give them a opportunity, you won't regret.
