German black metal Band Abkehr Just released their most recent album ...dem Willen zur Macht und dem Vergessen. It came out on the 27th of March through Vendetta Records.
It's one of the best albums I've heard this year. It is that very interesting European Black Metal, with aggressive potent rhythms at all times, and without the need of adding too many effects or over the top production. It is very good indeed. It is more raw than not, but you won't hear only growling, and definitely no high pitched screaming. You'll hear growling yes, and also a lot of despair in the voice, sometimes as declaiming. It is so suffered, I got quite dragged into the spirit and suffered too while I listened to it. I'm saying this in a good way. It is great and greatly contagious.
...dem Willen zur Macht und dem Vergessen has 6 tracks, being the first two very long (c. 12 minutes each) but also so very atmospheric, and the last one Abgesang is the Epilogue.
It is sad music, it is revolting music, it is artistic music. I like it very much for a million reasons, but one of them is because it gets out of the ordinary. It is not just another black metal album, it is different, original, very potent, desperate, and very melancholic at times. Experimental at bits too.
If you like this type of black metal, which doesn't copy, doesn't try to be a trend and also doesn't try to be different on purpose, but delivers a very sentimental, aggressive, sometimes depressing and always heavy music, I'm sure you'll love ...dem Willen zur Macht und dem Vergessen.
My favourite track is Abkehr (Akt V). It is so extreme. Full of anger, so furious, so powerful and intense.
I've heard some very good black metal this year so far, but ...dem Willen zur Macht und dem Vergessen did really surprise me.
